Photograph shows African-American adults and children reading books while lined up in front of a barracks-like building. The same building is shown in "Freedman's Barracks, Alexandria, Va." (LC LOT 4161-H, no. 22) The National Archives describes this photograph as "A contraband school" (ID 111-B-S240). The White House Historical Association describes this photo as depicting the residents of Camp Barker as they prepared for Lincoln's visit.
